American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) Coalition Building

You’re probably aware that Iowa hosts the first-in-the-nation presidential caucuses, but did you know that in Iowa, more than 30 percent of electricity generated comes from wind? The answer is likely no – and you’re not alone. This holds true for presidential candidates, policy staffers, and the droves of politicos that trek through Iowa each election cycle. The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) enlisted the help of LS2group to change that.

Wind energy is a crucial industry in Iowa, and as such, LS2group sought to highlight its positive economic impact, shed light on important policy issues, and develop wind advocates in a coalition across the state. Business leaders, state legislators, economic development professionals, and more were educated on key issues, such as the Wind Production Tax Credit, and unified by a cohesive message to ensure campaign success. We also activated our team of marketing gurus to complement these efforts with a branded traveling wind blade, educational handouts, eye-catching banners, and mini fans to keep wind supporters cool in the Iowa summer heat.

Throughout the campaign, LS2group engaged with nearly 20 candidates and activated dozens of supporters to submit letters, pen editorials, and directly interface with presidential hopefuls. The hard work and time on the road paid off – the effort resulted in strong support from Iowa’s Congressional delegation and top of mind recall of wind issues with key political influencers.
