Jarrod Johnson

Jarrod Johnson was elected in South Dakota to two terms as commissioner of school and public lands from 2006-2013. In 2022 he was appointed again to the office to fill out a remaining term by Gov. Kristi Noem. He has served on the South Dakota Investment Council as a vested council member and was chair of the South Dakota Board of Appraisal. Jarrod was appointed by Govs. Rounds and Daugaard to the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.
Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne appointed him to the Bureau of Land Management Montana and the Dakotas Resource Advisory Committee. He was elected by his peers as president of the Western States Land Commissioners Association (currently the National Association of State Trust Lands) where he worked with federal agencies on state trust land issues on behalf of 23 member states. Jarrod Johnson holds a B.S. degree in animal and range sciences from South Dakota State University and is a fifth generation family rancher in his home state of South Dakota.
