Last year, Des Moines officials made news when they announced Kosovo was to open a consulate here. The announcement was significant, not only because the consulate will be the first of its kind in Central Iowa, but also because of what it represents: the growing role that our city and state play within the global economic arena.

LS2group was honored to celebrate the opening of the consulate, as well as the state’s broader relationship with Kosovo, by hosting discussions in partnership with Open World and Iowa Sister States – two organizations that share our company’s devotion to broadening our region’s economic horizons. The events reinforced very clearly that, when it comes to Iowa’s role in the international economy, the future is bright and defined by opportunity.

As one of the nation’s top exporters, Iowa is no stranger to international economics. Nearly 3,500 Iowa companies, including many of LS2group’s clients, export their goods and services abroad. LS2group is proud of the work we do to identify opportunities and open new markets for our clients to engage in and grow overseas.

For many reasons, Kosovo is one market with great potential for companies in Iowa and the Midwest. The United States and Kosovo share a deep and closely intertwined relationship. For many years, the United States supported Kosovo’s fight for independence and the subsequent work of establishing the nation’s economy, governmental structure, and presence within world geopolitics.

Today, Kosovo continues that work by strengthening its investment climate, moving toward a fully market-based economy, and attracting foreign capital. The country has a fertile investment landscape with great potential in agribusiness, food processing, tourism, healthcare, and much more. Iowa businesses and companies from around the Midwest are well positioned to engage in Kosovo, and in doing so, to generate business opportunities for themselves while strengthening the economy of a vital European ally in one of the world’s most sensitive regions.

A strong Kosovo stabilizes the Balkans region – aiding the cause of democracy and helping its neighbors maintain central tenets such as the rule of law and freedom of speech. In doing so, Kosovo also plays a critical role in stemming the tide of ISIS and assisting in the Global War on Terrorism.

Here in Iowa, and right here at LS2group, we can realize tremendous, mutual benefit by continuing to foster the dialogue and cooperation necessary to broaden both Iowa and Kosovo’s role on the international stage.
